Travis Kelce drops collection with American Eagle after Taylor Swift engagement

Less than a day after Travis Kelce's engagement to Taylor Swift was announced, American Eagle dropped a new collection in collaboration with the NFL star.

The denim and streetwear brand revealed Aug. 27 it was collaborating with Kelce's sportswear and lifestyle brand Tru Kolors for a limited-edition collection, which "merges fashion, sports and culture" and pairs "the #1 jeans brand for Gen Z with one of the most recognizable faces in football and entertainment."

American Eagle said Kelce, who served as creative director for the collab, was "involved in every step of the process alongside the AE team."

"Reflecting the way he lives–full of intention and true to his core philosophy of 'live to play,' Kelce took a hands-on approach from design inspiration to fabric, color palette, sample selection, silhouette refinement and graphic creation," the brand said, adding each product in this collection "underscores AE and Kelce’s shared passion for creating pieces that exude confidence while feeling personal, purposeful and versatile."

Here's everything we know about the collaboration.

Why did Kelce and American Eagle team up?

Kelce, in a statement, said he had to keep his "excitement about this collab under wraps for nearly a year" and that it was "an awesome opportunity to team up with an established brand where both sides were excited to truly collaborate on every decision in the design and creative process that brought the 'AE x TK' collection to life."

"I believe the best way to live is with authenticity, joy, and optimism, and that’s what Tru Kolors has stood for from the start," Kelce said in a letter to fans. "Together with American Eagle, we designed a collection that captures that energy."

Kelce, in his letter, also explained the two brands chose "six incredible athletes" to represent the collaboration.

They include tennis player Anna Frey, basketball player Azzi Fudd, football quarterback Drew Allar, football wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, basketball player Kiyan Anthony and gymnast Suni Lee.

"American Eagle and Travis Kelce were destined to collaborate," President and Executive Creative Director of American Eagle Outfitters Jennifer Foyle said in a statement.

"An iconic brand teaming up with one of the greatest athletes of our generation - that’s what I call a win," she said.

Travis Kelce collab comes on heels of controversial Sydney Sweeney campaign

Sydney Sweeney joins forces with American Eagle for its Fall 2025 campaign.

American Eagle's collaboration with Kelce comes just weeks after its campaign with actress Sydney Sweeney spawned a fierce cultural debate over the ad's wordplay, which described Sweeney, 27, as having "good genes" to promote the brand's denim jeans.

Critics argued the campaign and its slogan "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans" was a double entendre endorsing eugenics, the pseudoscience that promotes the belief that some genetic features are better than others. However, her supporters said the ad is meant to be a light-hearted wordplay, defending the "Euphoria" actress and the brand.

President Donald Trump also weighed in on the debate and came out in support of Sweeney after being told the actor is a registered Republican in Florida.

"Oh, now I love her ad ... If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic," Trump said.

The clothing retailer, meanwhile, defended the ad and doubled down in an Instagram post shared Aug. 1.

"'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way," the statement read. "Great jeans look good on everyone."
