The show must go on, though the Emily in Paris team is still mourning the sudden loss of one of their own.

The cast and crew are back to work on season 5, as Just Jared reported, following the tragic death of an assistant director earlier this week.

On Saturday, Aug. 23, Lily Collins was spotted dressed in character on a gondola in Venice, Italy. She was shooting a scene with co-stars Ashley Park, Eugenio Franceschini and Paul Forman.

On Thursday, Aug. 21, the show’s assistant director Diego Borella tragically died after collapsing on set. He was 47.

The team was filming at Hotel Danieli in Venice when Borella suffered a medical emergency. According to La Repubblica, a local doctor said Borella likely suffered a heart attack.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm the sudden passing of a member of the 'Emily in Paris' production family,” a Paramount Television Studios spokesperson told Variety. “Our hearts go out to the individual’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

Borella was born in Venice and became an established director and writer who worked in a variety of different genres, according to reports.

Earlier this week, Collins, 36, had shared an exciting update on the Emmy-nominated show's upcoming season.

“The countdown officially begins, with a first look and release date for @emilyinparis SEASON FIVE! Emily’s Italian adventure continues, from cobblestones to canals, on December 18th,” the celebrated actress captioned an Instagram post on Aug. 20.

In season 5, Emily will face "professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city. But just as everything falls into place, a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks,” according to Variety.

Emily in Paris debuted on Netflix in 2020 and follows Collins' eponymous heroine as she navigates a new life in France after moving from the U.S. Season 4 ended with Emily moving to Italy and seemingly pursuing a relationship with Marcello, played by Franceschini, 33.
